Chapter 1

The Rule and life of the Friars Minor consist in observing the holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, living in obedience, without property, and in chastity.

Brother Francis promises obedience and respect to our Holy Father Pope Honorius, to his legitimate Successors, and to the Roman Church. As for the other brothers, they are obligated to obey Brother Francis and his Successors.
